According to the Hindu calendar, this occasion falls on the Shukla Paksha Dashmi i.e., the 10th day of Aswin month. Meaning & Significance Of Saraswati Visarjan

From 1000 BC to 1500 AD, the glories of Goddess Saraswati appeared in almost every significant old and medieval Indian writing. Through the Vedic age and current circumstances of Hindu conventions, she has played a prominent role as a Goddess.

According to the Shanti Parva of the Mahabharata, Goddess Saraswati is known as the Mother of the Vedas. She is known as the Goddess of knowledge, music, wisdom, and the arts. Goddess Saraswati resides in her heavenly abode named Brahmapura, with Lord Brahma, her consort. She is depicted sitting on a peacock, hansa, or swan. 

It is believed that the universe was created by Lord Brahma and Goddess Saraswati with the knowledge of Lord Brahma. All across India, Goddess Saraswati is worshiped with utmost devotion along with Goddess Kali and Goddess Lakshmi, which comprise the Hindu 'Tridevi'. For the purpose of seeking her divine grace, students and people in the arts and literature professions especially worship Goddess Saraswati.

Saraswati Visarjan 2023 Rituals

Almost every Puja in the Hindu culture, such as Saraswati Puja, begins with an invocation of the Goddess through an idol or 'murti'. On the occasion of Saraswati Visarjan, devotees wake up early in the morning and dress up in traditional clothes after taking a shower. On this occasion, females adorn themselves with gold and silver ornaments. Moreover, the females here have a tradition of applying vermillion on each other's forehead. 

Devotees prepare special meals and sweets to offer Goddess Saraswati on this occasion. After completing all the rituals and Pujas, the devotees then proceed to the Saraswati Visarjan. The ceremony of the Sarasvati Visarjan 2023 will be concluded by taking the eco-friendly idol of Goddess Saraswati to the river or any other water body in order to immerse it. The process of the Visarjan is celebrated on a grand level along with dance and music. After wishing farewell to the Goddess, the devotees long for her return the next year. 

In the southern states of India like Maharashtra, and Goa, the Saraswati Puja starts on Maha Saptami with Saraswati Avahan and ends on the day of Vijayadashami. Moreover, on the day of Saraswati Visarjan, which is also known as Udvasan, there is a tradition of initiating the process of embedding knowledge in the children in this region. This tradition is typically known as Vidya Arambham and is celebrated with full zest and gaiety.
