Day 7 of Chaitra Navratri 2024 Date

Goddess Kalratri is worshiped on the Maha Saptami, that is, the seventh day of Chaitra Navratri. This year the Chaitra Navratri Day 7 will be celebrated on 15th April  2024. Red is the color of this day, and worshipers should wear the clothing of this Maa Kalratri color while worshiping her.

The Appearance of Maa Kalratri

Kalratri Mata is the most violent and threatening form of Maa Durga. The Mata is dark complexioned, has wild hair, wears a garland of skulls, has three eyes, and has her tongue out - indicating her hunger for blood. Moreover, she has four hands, of which the left two hold a scimitar and a thunderbolt. Whereas the right two hands are in the Varada, meaning blessing, and Abhaya meaning protecting mudras.

Maa Kalratri Story

Hindu mythology narrates a fascinating story connected with the seventh form of Goddess Durga - Maa Kalratri. Raktabeej, a demon, had gained a boon that whenever his blood touches the ground, a new demon shall be born from it. This boon made him unstoppable, as none of the gods and goddesses could kill him.

Concerned, they looked upon the Goddess Durga for defeating Raktabeej. To save the world, Maa Durga began fighting against him. Contrarily, even the demon attacked her in full power. However, with every drop of blood that fell on the ground of Raktabeej, more and more demons were born. Defeating him was becoming impossible.

Thus, Maa Durga finally had to take the avatar of Mata Kalratri, who is the most powerful and frightening form of Goddess Durga. As soon as Raktabeej saw Maa Kalratri devi on the battlefield, he got frightened and tried to escape. However, Mata pursued and caught him. After that, she licked every drop of his blood with her tongue, thus preventing any demon from being born.

The gods and goddesses effortlessly overpowered the other demons after taking down Raktabeej. On the seventh day of Chaitra Navratri, the triumph of Mata Kalratri against Raktabeej is celebrated. Kalratri Mata is regarded as the destroyer of ignorance and darkness. Maa Kalratri's story guides us that regardless of how strong evil appears, we can always overcome it through belief and devotion to the divine.
