Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam and Gulika Kaal are considered as that time of the day when starting anything auspicious is prohibited by Vedic Astrology. There are many such things for which shubh muhurat is not always needed, but still, Rahu Kaal timing is always considered, like when you are purchasing a new vehicle and purchasing land or house.

However, in South India, people often refer to Nalla Nerum to find the best time to perform auspicious activities.

 Ask Personalized Muhurat to Astrologer.

Use Rahu Kaal calculator to find the Rahu Kaal time in your city.

To find the most auspicious time of the day, check daily Choghadiya and Panchang.

Legend of Rahu

Rahukalam is connected to the legend of Swarbhanu, the mythical demon blessed with shapeshifting capabilities. Amrit, (a potion for attaining eternity) was being distributed in heaven. This potion was obtained from the depths of the ocean by a process called “Ocean Churning.” The potion was indeed priceless and thus, only a measured quantity was being poured into the mouth of each God. Swarbhanu got into this queue of Gods, shapeshifting as one of them.

When Vishnu (Hindu equivalent of Apollo) fed him the Amrit, Vishnu immediately realized his mistake. Before the Amrit could create its full impact, Vishnu used his wheel to slice Swarbhanu’s throat and thus began the Rahu Kaal. Swarbhanu’s head and body meanwhile had gained eternity. So now, they exist in the world as two separate entities.

Neptune and Uranus stand for Rahu and Ketu respectively. Rahu can clog your senses and mostly your hearing abilities during the Rahu Kaal.

Rahu Kaal is thus the time when no one must perform anything significant which is bound to the fear of Loss. Hence, the next time you are up for something significant, please make sure you don’t forget to check the most inauspicious hours of the day.
