Anant Chaturdashi 2025 Story

The story of Anant Chaturdashi is related to a Brahmin's daughter named Sushila, who got married to the Sage Koundinya. When she went to Sage's home after marriage, he began the evening prayers at the river bank. Just then, Sushila noticed a lot of women worshiping, and when she asked about it, they mentioned they were praying by observing fast to appease Lord Anant. She learned about the importance of Anant Chaturthi fast in detail and instantly decided to observe herself too. She further tied the holy thread with 14 knots on her arm.

When Kaundinya noticed the thread on her arm, he asked about it. She narrated the complete story to him. At this, Kaundinya got angry and refused the ritual. He pulled the divine thread and threw it in the fire. Disgracing the lord made him lose all his wealth. He soon realized his mistakes and vowed to observe strict penance until Lord Anant forgives and emerges in front of him. However, despite numerous efforts, the deity did not turn up. So, Kaundinya chose to commit suicide but was rescued by a hermit. He was then taken to the cave by him, where Lord Vishnu appeared before him. 

The deity suggested he vows to revere the Lord Anant and fast for 14 years to get his wealth. Kaundinya did so with utmost honesty and acquired back his wealth. From that day, devotees keep the Anant Chaturdashi vrat with utmost devotion.

• The devotees begin the Anant Chaturdashi 2025 Pooja vidhi by applying 14 tilaks (vertical, small strips) of vermilion to a wooden plank. 
• On these tilaks, keep 14 puas (a sweet deep-fried wheat bread) and 14 puris (deep-fried wheat bread).
• Then, worshippers put Panchamrit (Kshirsagar) on the wooden surface. 
• On a cucumber, the sacred Anant Chaturdashi 2025 thread made of 14 knots is tied, which stands for Lord Anant, and is then stirred 5 times in the Panchamrit or say the 'Ocean of Milk.' 
• The sacred thread Ananta Sutra, dyed with kumkum & turmeric, is tied around the arm of the devotees after they observe the fast. 
• The sacred Anant Chaturdashi thread is then taken off after 14 days.
