Sakat Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival celebrated by Hindus in the Northern part of our country. This fast is observed by women from sunrise to moonrise, and prayers are offered to Lord Ganesha requesting for the well-being of their children. The Story behind Sakat Ganesh Chaturthi

As per the Sakat Chauth Vrat Katha, once lived a blind woman in a village, along with his son and daughter-in-law, and was a rigid worshiper of Lord Ganesha. Delighted by her devotion, God appeared in front of her and granted her a wish. Confused, the woman replied about being skeptical of what to ask. At this, God advised her to seek advice from her son and his wife. In doing so, both of them kept their needs in front of her. While the son asked for money and wealth, his wife asked for a son. However, she also sought suggestions from her neighbors, and they suggested she ask for her eyesight. The last piece of advice was most liked by her. But she also knew if she did not ask for what her son and his wife had asked, it would make them upset. Hence, she kept thinking the whole night about what she should ask from the Lord.

When Lord Ganesha appeared in front of her the next day, she told him that she wished she could be healthy to see her grandson with all the luxuries of life. At this, Lord Ganesha said that she intelligently asked for everything a person desires. As promised, he gave her whatever she asked. After this occurrence, women started keeping fast for their children on Sakat Ganesh Chaturthi.

On the day of Sakat Chauth Vrat, women follow the below-mentioned rituals:

• Wake up early in the morning and bathe.
• Light a Diya with desi ghee to worship Lord Ganesha
• In the Sakat Chauth Puja Vidhi, women offer flowers, Til Koot & Durva Grass
• Recite Sakat Chauth Vrat Katha and chant mantras
• After seeing the stars, women break their fast
• Devour satvik meal (i.e, without onion & garlic)
