People around different places do Kali Chaudas Celebrations by burning paper effigies of the demon Narakasura who was defeated by Goddess Kali and Lord Krishna together. Since it is also the time for harvest, people also celebrate by making local delicacies and thanking the lord for his mercy. According to legends, it is believed that on the day of Kali Chaudas, Lord Vishnu incarnated himself a Shree Krishna to save the world from the evils of the demon Narakasura. Narakasura was given the boon that he could die only at the hands of his mother. Lord Krishna fell unconscious because of a heavy blow from the demon, this is when his wife Satyabhama came to his rescue and killed the demon. Satyabhama was a form of Mother Earth who was the mother of Narakasura. So the oon was fulfilled as he was killed by his mother only. Narakasura sought redemption and asked for his forgiveness and that is why Kali Chaudas is celebrated as good always taking over evil.
