Vijaya Ekadashi Vrat Katha

Just like Vijaya Dashmi, the story of Vijaya Ekadashi is also related to Lord Shri Ram. So let us hear what the Vijaya Ekadashi Katha is about.

Thousands of years ago, in the era of Dwapar, the importance of Falgun Ekadashi made the Pandavas curious and they asked Lord Krishna about it. Describing its importance, the Lord stated that they were the second to learn about the Vijaya Ekadashi vrat, story, and significance of the Falgun Krishna Ekadashi after Narad Muni, who acquired knowledge from Brahma.

The Vijaya Ekadashi Vrat Katha is from the Treta Yuga, the period when Lord Shri Ram, with the help of Sugriva's army, went to fight with Ravana, because of Mother Sita's abduction. However, they were stopped by the huge ocean to marching towards Lanka.

The army of monkeys could be harmed by the dangerous sea creatures present in the waters. Lord Shri Ram wanted to solve the problem and asked Lakshmana how to cross the sea. At this, Lakshmana informed that Wakdalbhya Munivar, who lives half a distance away from that place, would be able to find a solution for this. Shri Ram visited him and narrated the problem. The sage asked Shri Ram, along with the entire army, to fast on Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month. He said, it will not only make them successful but overpower Lanka too.

As suggested by Muni Wakdalbhya, Lord Shri Ram, along with the entire army, observed the Vijaya Ekadashi vrat. Then, the entire Ramsena attacked Lanka and triumphed over it. The Ekadashi fast helped Shri Ram, the incarnation of Lord Shri Ram, defeat the gigantic army of Ravana and free Mata Sita.
