Story of Maa Skandamata

This is the story of Skandamata Devi, the 5th day of Navratri Goddess: According to a Hindu story, the demon Tarkasur irritated Lord Shiva by controlling Earth. The demon received a gift from Lord Brahma promising that only the son of Lord Shiva would be able to destroy him. Lord Shiva was an ascetic, thus Tarkasur was sure he would never get married. But much to the chagrin of the demons, Lord Shiva wed Goddess Parvati. They soon received a son named Kumar Kartikeya as a gift. Tarkasur was slain by Lord Kartikeya using his extraordinary abilities. Other gods admired Lord Kartikeya's mother, bestowing upon her the name "Skanda Mata." It is akin to worshipping her son, Lord Kartikeya, to adore Skandamata Devi. According to beliefs, the prayer will be addressed to both deities, the mother (Skanda Mata) and her child (Lord Kartikeya).

Navratri 5th day Aarti or Skandamata Aarti

The following is the Skandamata Aarti Lyrics for the fifth day of Navratri Puja.
