Story Behind The Occasion Of Rishi Panchami

According to the Hindu culture, Rishis or Sages are believed to have a significant contribution in shaping the phase of human civilization. They had immense knowledge, spiritual insights, and wisdom.

A dog strayed into the midst of the Sapta rishis while they were performing their daily rituals. As they were busy with their rituals, they did not notice that the dog was there and accidentally stepped on its tail. Only later did they realize their mistake and feel guilty for not respecting the dog. At that moment, the Sapta rishis decided to purify themselves of their sins and impurities. For several days, they kept fast and performed penance exercises. By doing so, they succeeded in attaining purity and salvation. Considering this truth, the Rishi Panchami festival is a festival of righteousness and salvation in honor of this event.

Women bathe in rivers or holy waters to rid themselves of their sins and impurities. They also fast and pray to the Sapta Rishis, hoping to receive their blessings. In addition, the festival is an opportunity for people to ask forgiveness for their past sins and vow to live a virtuous and pure life in the future.

Hindu culture celebrates the purity and redemption of the Sapta Rishis during Rishi Panchami, a festival honoring their wisdom and spiritual insight. It's a time when people seek the blessings of the sages and purify themselves of their sins and impurities that prevent them from leading a fulfilling life.
