One of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar is Kojagara Puja 2025. It is intended for Goddess Lakshmi's devotion to Purnima in the Ashwin month. In the states of Assam, West Bengal, and Orissa, the day is cherished and joyfully enjoyed. It is observed in September or October, depending on the Gregorian calendar.

"Bengal Lakshmi Puja" or "Kojagari Purnima" are other names for the occasion. As the goddess of happiness and prosperity, Goddess Lakshmi is revered by Ashwin Purnima as a source of great wealth and fortune.

A small region of Bihar and Bundelkhand both heavily celebrate the holiday. The Kojagara Puja rituals should be performed as close to midnight as possible, or Nishita Kaal. The major and most important aspect of the puja is maintaining vigil all night, which calls for the participants to carry out a midnight Jagran. The term "Kojagara," which is pronounced "Ko+Jagara," is used to indicate someone who maintains a vigil at night.

The devotees who do a midnight jagaran and then perform a Lakshmi Puja receive the heavenly blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

Kojagara Vrat Katha

There are several unique stories associated with Kojagara fast that may be found in various locations. One of the most popular ones is:

There was a moneylender in the past. His mother Lakshmi, a devout Hindu who had two children, fasted on the full moon. The oldest daughter of the moneylender used to observe this fast and did so in accordance with rigorous guidelines. In contrast, because of ignorance, his younger daughter used to abandon the fast. Goddess Lakshmi was furious when he couldn't finish the fast.

As a result, the boys of the moneylender's younger daughter started passing away. Shortly after she gave birth to a child, her son would pass away. The younger daughter of the moneylender was insulted by this and revealed her difficulties to a wise man. After viewing the younger daughter of the wise moneylender, all became evident. He explained to the younger daughter of the moneylender her error in not following the Poornima fast in accordance with tradition. He assured the daughter of the moneylender that her child would live if she correctly observed the Purnima fast.

He completed Purnima's fast by following the sage's directions and the procedure. As a consequence, she became pregnant; however, the infant passed away a few days later. She felt irritated before recalling her elder sister. He made the child lie down on a little piece of wood and covered him with the cloth. She then called for her older sister and indicated that she should sit atop her. The younger sister had no idea that the child's body had been found. As soon as her lehenga touched the baby when she sat down on him, the child woke up and started crying.

The older sister reprimanded her when she saw this, saying, "You meant to tarnish me, it would have died by my sitting." The younger sister politely responded that it was already dead after hearing what the older sister had said. It has only come to life as a result of your tenacity and virtue.

The moneylender then issued an order for the city as a whole to fast until the full moon. Since then, a celebration honoring the goddess Lakshmi has been held on this day.
