As per the Hindu Calendar, Kajari Teej is observed in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September). Devotees worship Goddess Parvati on this day as she reunited after a long with her husband, Lord Shiva. Kajari Teej Festival is celebrated mainly in the northern & western states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. On this day, rituals such as fasting and worshiping by women are done for the well-being and good health of their husbands as well as families.

  • Women observing vrat on this day to seek the benefits of Kajari Teej 2024 generally do not devour food or water the entire day and keep the rigorous Nirjala Fast, which is really tough. They avoid consuming food that is salty or sour before the day of the fast.
  • On the Kajari Teej date and time, women bathe early and worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. They offer various items to the deities as a part of puja vidhi, such as fruits, sweets, flowers, bangles, sindoor, and also perform the aarti.
  • All the women of the family or neighborhood come together to listen to Kajari Teej Vrat Katha, which talks about the reunion of Goddess Parvati & Lord Shiva .
  • Women apply mehndi on their hands, as well as feet, to show devotion to their husbands. They also dress up in traditional attire and adorn themselves with solah shringar. 
  • In the evening, once the women offer prayers to the moon, they break the fast and eat the food prepared without garlic and onion.

To get blessed with a baby, she started praying on Teej to Goddess Parvati by performing a strict fast. Kajari's devotion to the goddess made her show up in her dream. She advised Kajari to follow the Teej fast with utmost devotion and assured her that she would soon get a response to her prayers. Kajari performed the Teej Vrat with supreme dedication, as directed. 

On the 3rd day of the Teej fast, Kajari gave birth to a son. She expressed her happiness and thanked Goddess Parvati for the joy she bestowed on her. After this incident, Kajari followed the Teej fast every year and expressed her satisfaction with other women too. She supported other women going through difficult times and advised them to perform the Teej fast. After this incident, this Teej gained much popularity among women, and thus, a festival was born, which was named Kajari Teej.
